Hydrogen bus leak free

A hydrogen bus will run between Arnhem and Apeldoorn at the end of this year. It will be the first in a series, promises HyMove.

After HyMove's first hydrogen bus was dismantled last summer, the Arnhem-based company has a second one built by Solbus in Poland. Syntus will use the bus between Arnhem and Apeldoorn for two years. He will then make one return trip in the morning rush hour and one in the evening rush hour. The money for the test, 760.000 euros, comes from the province of Gelderland.

HyMove's first hydrogen bus from 2011 would also run in the timetable, in Arnhem. That did not work. After a number of promotional trips, it was decided to dismantle the bus because it was too expensive to keep the vehicle on the road. Director of HyMove BV Jochem Huygen: “There were too many conflicting interests. Connexxion wanted certainty about the time after the trial period. Politics was divided and our partner Stadsregio Arnhem Nijmegen transferred to the province. In the end, we came to an agreement with Syntus.

Hydrogen leak detection

Hydrogen leak detection

Leak Control performed an H2 leak test on the fuel cell system at the request of the RDW. To receive type approval, the bus must not have any hydrogen leaks.

After checking with the Inficon/Sensistor Sentrac hydrogen detector, we were able to inform the RDW that the H2 systems were installed completely leak-free.

To be able to park the bus safely in a garage during maintenance work, Leak Control has been able to supply the H2scan model 600 hydrogen room monitoring. This special 100% selective H2 sensor reports when a too high concentration of H2 is detected, so that peripheral equipment can be controlled to monitor safety.
